History

Timeline

  • 1639 Came to Boston from Stonehouse, Devonshire County, England as one of the Massachusetts Bay colonists
  • 1641 - 1644 Resided at Dorchester, Mass
  • Jul 1651 Due to disagreements with members of the Church at Boston involving conscientious scruples, he seperated from the church. He was also excommunicated.
  • 1652 Family returned to Plymouth, England where Cromwell now seemed to encourage freedom of religion. Richard agreed with the views of the Friends.
  • Feb 1655 Richard was imprissoned in jaoil near the castle of Exter on the chrage that he asserted that "Christ was the word of God and the Scriptures a declaration of the mind of God"
  • May 1655 Richard testified with other Quakers against the acts of the mayor and the falsehood of the charges brought aginst them.
  • 20 Jan 1660 Richard and others were taken from a meeting at Plymouth by the mayor and sent to the High Gaol at Exon (Exeter).
  • 1663 Family left England and came to Rhode Island because of the freedom offered there to Friends.
  • 1665 Lippincotts joined other families from Rhode Island to become the first English Colony in New Jersey. Richard was the largest shareholder. He became an active officer of the colony.
  • 1670 Richard was the overseer of Shrewsburytown. There he helped establish the first Friends Meeting in New Jersey.
  • 1675 Richard voyaged to England
  • 1676 Richard purchased from John Fenwick 1000 acres in Fenwick Colony, Salem, NJ on the Cohansey River in the present county of Salem, NJ.

Restore was respected in the community for his regard for truth and justice. He was a member of the Council of NJ in 1703 and of the Assembly in 1704.

Personal property. the wife executrix. Witnesses - Hug Dickman, Judah Allen. Acknowledged by testator before Joseph Parker, Justice of the Peace, as his testament same day. Lib. A, p. 254

1684 May 21. Inventory of the personal estate (L428.20, incl. debts due L30 and neagro servants (L60); made by Eliakim Wardell, Willima Shattock, Francis Borden and Joseph Parker, as shown by the widow Abigail.

1697 June 28. Lippincott, Abigail, of Shrewsberry, widow of Richard; will of. Grandson John, son of John Lippincott, widow and children of son Freedom except eldest son Samuel, granddaughters, children of daughter Increa Dennes, viz: Abigail, Sibiah and Rachel Dennes, son-in-law Samuel Dennes, son Restore, Remembrance and John Lippincot. Land in the new purchase, called Pesequenokwe, in Shrewsbury. Personal property. Executors - John Hance, William Worth and William Shattock.
